Dental care is a benefit of employment and/or financial wealth. Adults and youth, who are unemployed, underemployed and/or who do not have the financial means to pay for dental care, do not have access to relief of pain and suffering caused by oral diseases. In addition, untreated dental disease may significantly impair a person’s ability to work, learn or function in activities of daily living. Often, this at- risk population must choose between paying for basic necessities like food and shelter, and paying for necessary dental care.
